treatments ·SWIFT® Therapy
Stubborn plantar warts have an answer.
SWIFT® Therapy, available only at our Wheat Ridge location, is an advanced treatment for plantar warts that haven't responded to standard care. Using targeted microwave energy, SWIFT triggers an immune response that helps the body clear the wart virus from the inside out — particularly effective for warts that have persisted for years.

how it works
Microwave energy triggers the immune response.
SWIFT uses targeted microwave energy to heat the wart tissue to specific temperatures. The thermal stimulus disrupts the wart cells in a way that releases viral particles and antigens, triggering a localized immune response. The body's immune system then recognizes the wart virus as foreign and clears it from the affected tissue — essentially using your immune system as the active treatment agent.
What makes SWIFT different from other wart treatments is its mechanism. Cryotherapy (freezing) and salicylic acid try to physically destroy the wart tissue. SWIFT instead activates the body's own clearance mechanisms. This is why SWIFT often works for warts that have failed other treatments — past treatment failures don't reduce SWIFT's effectiveness because the immune response is the active mechanism.
KEY FEATURES OF swift therapy
— Targets the wart virus directly. Microwave energy triggers immune response specifically against HPV in the wart tissue.
— Brief treatment sessions. Each treatment takes about 5 minutes — much faster than many alternative wart treatments.
— No downtime or wound care. No bandages, no soaking, no special care between treatments — return to normal activities immediately.
— Effective for resistant warts. Particularly valuable for warts that have failed cryotherapy, salicylic acid, or other standard treatments.
Who This Is For
SWIFT therapy is most appropriate for patients with persistent plantar warts that haven't responded to standard treatments. The classic candidate has had the same wart for one year or longer, has tried over-the-counter salicylic acid treatments, often had cryotherapy without success, and is frustrated by the cycle of partial improvement followed by recurrence.
The treatment is also valuable for mosaic warts (clusters of small warts that are particularly resistant to standard treatments), warts in patients who can't tolerate cryotherapy, and warts on weight-bearing areas where significant tissue destruction from other treatments would create discomfort.
Built for the patients who've tried everything else.
For active patients — runners, hikers, athletes — SWIFT offers an advantage over treatments that create wounds requiring healing time. There's no break in the skin, no need to keep the area dry, no impact on training or daily activities.
SWIFT isn't appropriate for every patient or every wart. Patients with significantly compromised immune function may not generate the immune response needed for the treatment to work. We evaluate honestly during consultation to determine whether SWIFT is the right approach for your specific situation.

RECOGNITION
We've been honored to be voted Best Podiatrist in the Best of Mile High in 2023, 2024, and 2025, and we've been named a Neighborhood Fave by Nextdoor. We've also earned a 4.8-star rating from more than 1,300 patients across our two offices. We mention this because we're proud of it — but also because those ratings are built one visit at a time, by real patients who took the time to say something. We don't take that lightly.

ANSWERS TO COMMON QUESTIONS
What patients ask about SWIFT therapy.
-
Clinical studies show SWIFT clears plantar warts in approximately 75 to 80 percent of patients, including warts that have failed other treatments. Most patients require 3 to 4 sessions spaced 4 weeks apart. Effectiveness is particularly high for stubborn warts that haven't responded to standard care.
SWIFT's mechanism — triggering an immune response rather than physically destroying tissue — explains why it often works for warts that have resisted other treatments. The body's immune system can clear viral tissue that physical treatments cannot effectively reach. For some patients, SWIFT clears multiple warts even when only one was directly treated, because the immune response targets all wart tissue. We're honest about expected outcomes for your specific situation.

SWIFT treatment involves brief sharp heat sensations lasting only seconds with each pulse. Most patients describe the discomfort as significant but very brief — much shorter than cryotherapy treatment and without the days of post-treatment soreness common with freezing. No anesthesia is required.
Each pulse lasts about 2 seconds, with several pulses delivered per wart per session. The total discomfort time is brief. Most patients tolerate the treatment well, particularly given that SWIFT often succeeds for warts that have resisted years of other treatments. For patients with low pain tolerance, we use techniques to minimize discomfort. Most patients consider the brief discomfort worthwhile for the chance to finally clear stubborn warts.
-
Most patients require 3 to 4 SWIFT sessions spaced 4 weeks apart for optimal results. Some warts clear after fewer sessions; others require additional treatments. The 4-week spacing allows time for the immune response to develop and the body to begin clearing the wart tissue between treatments.
Treatment response builds over weeks as the immune system progressively clears the viral tissue. Patients often notice the first signs of improvement (color change, reduced thickness, decreased size) several weeks after the first or second treatment. The full course allows for continued immune stimulation until the wart is completely cleared. We track response at each session and adjust the plan if needed.

Yes — SWIFT has an excellent safety profile. The microwave energy is precisely controlled and limited to the wart tissue, with no systemic effects, no significant risk to surrounding healthy tissue, and no risk of disease transmission. Common side effects are limited to brief discomfort during treatment.
SWIFT doesn't break the skin, doesn't require systemic medications, and doesn't create wounds that can become infected. The treatment is approved for use in podiatry and dermatology and has been used successfully for many years internationally. Our team is fully trained in proper SWIFT technique and patient selection. We screen for the rare contraindications before treatment to ensure SWIFT is appropriate for your specific situation.
-
Most insurance plans don't cover SWIFT specifically, often considering it elective or experimental. Self-pay rates are typically reasonable, particularly compared to repeated cycles of less effective treatments. HSA and FSA accounts can usually be used for SWIFT treatment.
We discuss costs upfront before recommending SWIFT so you can make an informed decision. For patients comparing SWIFT to other options, we walk through the realistic expectations for each — sometimes a few rounds of in-office cryotherapy is the right next step before considering SWIFT, sometimes SWIFT is clearly the appropriate choice. The cost-effectiveness calculation often favors SWIFT for warts that have already failed multiple other treatments.
